Randy Dudley, graphite drawing

Randy Dudley draws in graphite and gets mistaken for a photographer. Every white area in this piece is bare paper; every gray and black area is pencil. Up close, the paper shows through. Across a room, it reads as a black-and-white photograph of a highway overpass and an abandoned lot. You can see more of his work at the Meisel Gallery and at dudleyart.com.
Dudley worked on this piece for seven weeks, in March and April 2006, without taking on anything else. He told me:
It took seven weeks from start to finish, not working on anything else during that time. I worked on it during March and April, 2006.
I bought it from the New York gallery that represented Dudley at the time, and I'm the only owner it's had. It has stayed framed, in storage or in a dark room, since 2006, and it's in perfect condition.
